Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is a serious condition that can affect a person at any time. Our practice offers specialized examinations that are used to check for oral cancer. These examinations involve looking at the patient’s soft oral tissues and the areas around their mouth for any signs or symptoms of the condition.

Oral cancer is the result of uncontrolled cell growth inside the mouth or on the surrounding tissues. The condition must be treated as quickly as possible so that it doesn’t spread.

Some of the risk factors for oral cancer include:

  • Using tobacco products
  • Consuming excessive alcohol
  • Having a family history of cancer
  • Repeated exposure to UV rays

We typically provide a basic oral cancer screening during every regular dental checkup. In most cases, nothing out of the ordinary is found, and the patient will not require another screening until their next visit. There is no need to prepare ahead of time for an oral cancer screening. The process involves the dentist physically checking the patient’s lips, tongue, face, gums, throat any other soft oral tissues for any signs or symptoms of oral cancer. This could include an unusual growth or a lump.

At Hilltop Dental Studio, we take oral cancer very seriously. Our experts do everything possible to catch the condition early so that the most effective treatment and care can be provided. You may call us at (540) 317-1139 to schedule an appointment.
